“I’m 24, my name is Gary and for the first time in my life I’ve had the frightening experience of contracting a sexually transmitted infection. I was extremely embarrassed about it and did not want to visit my family GP. Living in a small village, I often see friends and relatives in the waiting room at my local surgery. In order to find alternative treatment and advice I searched the internet to find the closest Sexual Health Clinic to me.
Within the clinic, I was firstly able to get direct access to information relating to my symptoms via a touch screen kiosk in the reception area. This same touch screen also enabled me to input my personal details confidentially and I used it to answer a series of questions relating to my symptoms. The answers I gave via the touch screen referred me to a clinician and a ticket containing my queue number was also printed and delivered to me through the kiosk.
It’s all very confidential, I was very glad (whilst waiting to see the nurse) to be a number rather than a name. Another screen in the waiting area allowed me to see my position in the queue and details of the consultation room number."
The technology behind Gary's experience within the Sexual Health Clinic is known as Smart Clinic and it has been specifically designed and developed to work within Sexual Health Clinics. For more information please call 0116 232 4640 or email annie.taylor@voiceconnect.co.uk.
