Suzanne's Smart Clinic Experience

“My name is Suzanne, I’m 17 and hold down a full time job at a clothing store in town. I’ve just visited my local Sexual Health Clinic and want to share my experience with you today.

I had unprotected sex with Ben from our local college and later saw a poster about the spread of Chlamydia throughout their campus. The poster also gave details of a Sexual Health Clinic where Chlamydia test kits could be obtained anonymously.

I arrived at the clinic without seeing anyone I knew luckily, so I walked into reception and was relieved to find that I didn’t need to speak to a receptionist about my visit. Instead, I approached a kiosk containing a touch screen, which I thought was great, because I could just quietly and privately enter my details and answer their questions.

The touch screen gave me the option to obtain a Chlamydia test kit and I chose this option. To my surprise a ticket popped out of the kiosk with some printed labels to stick onto my sample and the screen directed me to the vending machine to collect my kit.

I have to admit at this point I was worried, because I expected to approach a vending machine that openly displayed Chlamydia test kits and that everyone around me would know exactly why I was there. I walked over to the vending machine and breathed a sigh of relief, because it was full of identical packages, I couldn’t tell a packet of condoms from a Chlamydia test kit.

Feeling less concerned I swiped my ticket across the barcode reader and my discrete package dropped into the collection draw at the bottom of the machine, I took it and left the clinic.”
